Sunday 23rd May

Fighting Prayer 7.

We said earlier that fighting prayers has two dimensions; the first is when we are speaking to the situation or thing and exercising our authority over any situation. In the second type, we are talking to God and drawing strength from Him for victory in life’s battles. There are times we know the will of God and what to do but the devil puts so much pressure on our mind that it is very difficult to do the things we know we should do. Apostle Paul spoke about this struggle with this in Rom. 7.

Jesus found himself in a similar situation in the Garden of Gethsemane just before going to the Cross. He was clear on His mission on earth and He had told His disciples about it over and over again. But hours before the Cross, he was under immense pressure as the devil shot all sorts of negative ideas to His mind. He told His disciples that His soul was to the point of death but Jesus knew the way to handle a situation like this was through prayers, fighting prayers. To re-align His will in line with the Father’s was warfare and He by this type of fighting prayers He accomplished that. This kind of prayer is usually called prayer of dedication or commitment. Let’s read what the bible says about this encounter in Jesus’ life.

Luke22:40-44(GNB),

When he arrived at the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” 41Then he went off from them about the distance of a stone's throw and knelt down and prayed. 42“Father,” he said, “if you will, take this cup of suffering away from me. Not my will, however, but your will be done.” 43An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44In great anguish he prayed even more fervently; his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Through prayer, Jesus drew strength from God to overcome the weakness of His human will. carna
