You CAN out train a bad diet [But why would you?]

We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at www.myrise.co.uk

Have you ever heard the expression “You can’t out train a bad diet”?

If you haven’t, you have now.

And it’s kinda true.

Although, if we’re being honest, you can out train a bad diet.

It’s just incredibly hard.

A massively inefficient approach.

Exercise is often massively overrated in terms of effectiveness for weight loss.

Have a guess how much weight an average sized man would lose by running a marathon (if all else were equal)?

A pound.

One measly pound of body fat.

For running / walking 26.2 miles.

If you had a big Saturday night that added 3,500 calories to your intake (meal out, several drinks and a take out on the way home would easily do it), you could do one of three things.

1. Gain a pound of body fat

2. Run a marathon the next day

3. Knock off 500 calories a day for the next week

Or, probably more a bit easier, option 4:

Make that night out 2,000 calories and knock of 400 a day until the next weekend.

Exercise is great for many things.

Increasing energy levels, toning and / or building muscle, getting a body we like the look and feel of, reducing aches and pains, health, fitness, better mood and mental health, supporting focus on better food choices and much, much more.

It’s rubbish for weight loss.

Compared to the changes we can make in our eating.

Exponentially easier.

Running a marathon vs. a handful less mouthfuls of food a day for a week.

Or even just as much (or more) food but lower calorie density choices.

Remember, you CAN out train a bad diet.

But why would you even want to try?

Much love,

Jon ‘Shamone’ Hall
