Woman attempts stealing baby from Lagos hospital

<p>A woman, Modinat Faniyi, was on Monday arraigned before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly attempting to steal a newborn baby in a Muslim hospital in the Ijaiye, Ojokoro area of Lagos State.</p>, <p>The 49-year-old was arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command on one count of attempted theft.</p>, <p>The prosecutor, Thomas Nurudeen, told the court that the defendant entered the Ahmadiya Muslim Hospital at Ijaiye, Ojokoro, on June 22, 2023, and attempted to abscond with a newborn baby when the mother was asleep.</p>, <p>According to Nurudeen, the offence contravened and is punishable under Section 21 (5) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.</p>, <p>The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.</p>, <p>Magistrate Patrick Nwaka admitted her to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.</p>, <p>He also adjourned the case till September 1, 2023.</p>
