What is the difference between empathy and compassion?

<p>These two words are often used interchangeably. But they are actually different things. </p> <p>Is it possible to have one without the other or do they go hand-in-hand?Dr. Hannah Hartwell, Suki Jeffreys, Jim Shulman and Michael May joined me for this quick venture into how language is used and it is a great example of why what you think you said might not be what the other person actually heard.</p> <p>For me, empathy is feeling how someone else feels. Compassion is caring about it. I think you can have compassion without empathy and now, after thinking about it more, I think it might also be possible to have empathy without compassion. </p> <p>What are your thoughts?
