Gospel Reflection– Fr Mike Delaney– Just Another Question (In today’s Gospel there is no actual question being asked of Jesus – rather he makes a comment about what it means to live a faithful life according to the Law of Moses. The Pharisees taught the Law which they considered a firm foundation and Jesus acknowledges that. But their hearts were not open to what God had intended the Law to proclaim – that he was their God, and they were his children. Jesus condemns their teaching and in contrast Jesus teaches – ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for you souls’ (11:28-29). The final part of our reading reminds us that we have one Master, one Father, One Teacher and challenges us to consider just another question: what this might mean in our community today and what might need to change to make it so today?)
