<p>On this episode of Vaccine 411……Could a COVID-19 vaccine be mandatory in the U.S.?</p><p>First, the latest vaccine news from around the world:</p><p>United States:&nbsp;Moderna began Phase III trials of their vaccine in the U.S. today.&nbsp;There will be at least 30,000 participants and 87 locations.&nbsp;Full results are expected by November.&nbsp;Coronavirus Task Force Member Dr. Fauci said he would like to see a minimum 60% success rate.&nbsp;The US government gave Moderna an additional 472 million to support the late stage trial.&nbsp;In April the company received 483 million, bringing the total investment to 955 million.&nbsp;</p><p>United Kingdom:&nbsp;British drug maker AstraZeneca signed a $174 million dollar deal with Maryland based Emergent BioSolutions for production of their vaccine candidate in development with the University of Oxford.&nbsp;</p><p>Russia:&nbsp;Biocad is considering producing one of their vaccine candidates in China with Shanghai Pharma.&nbsp;The vaccine is expected to enter Phase I trials in August.&nbsp;It’s one of 6 vaccines in development in Russia according to the WHO.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> &#10;&nbsp;<br /><hr><p style='color: grey; font - size: 0.75em; '>See <a style='color: grey; ' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer' href='https://acast.com/privacy'>acast.com/privacy</a> for privacy and opt-out information.</p>
