<p>On this episode of Vaccine 411……if a vaccine is proven safe and effective in early trials, why continue to study it?</p><p>First, the latest vaccine news from around the world:</p><p>United States: As part of “Operation Warp Speed”, the federal government signed a 1.95-billion-dollar agreement with Pfizer to provide 100 million doses of their vaccine candidate as early as December. If proven effective, Pfizer is hoping for FDA approval or emergency use authorization as early as October, reports USA Today. The Health and Human Services Secretary, Steve Azar, said any vaccine that is part of Operation Warp Speed will be free or affordable for U.S. citizens. </p><p>Coronavirus Task Force Member Dr. Fauci, speaking with the TB Alliance on vaccine creation said, ““If you want to do it correctly, with safety, and real attention to safety and efficacy, I think we are going as fast as we possibly can”. </p><p>Singapore: Arcturus Therapeutics and Duke NUS Medical School Singapore, received approval to begin Phase I/II human trials on their mRNA vaccine candidate. </p><p>Brazil: Phase III trials for Sinovac’s CoronaVac began in Sao Paulo on Tuesday. 900 volunteers including doctors and health care workers received the first doses.
