'Uyghurs look to Turkey as a leader in the Muslim world against China'

Uyghurs are China’s largest Muslim minority and are targeted in part for their Islamic identity, but the silence from many Muslim-majority nations against this has been deafening. Turkey, however, has been something of an exception. <br /><br /><br />Rushan Abbas, the founder and executive director for the Campaign for Uyghurs in Washington D.C, highlighted Turkey’s willingness to call out China’s oppression of Uyghurs as something that placed it ahead of its counterparts in the Muslim world. <br /><br /><br />“Turkey has always been supportive and President Erdogan has always been very vocal about the Uyghur situation,” Abbas told Ahval in a podcast interview.
