THREE CHEERS FOR GLENN YOUNGKIN<br /><br />Sometimes candidates pleasantly surprise you.<br /><br />Republican Glenn Youngkin was sworn in as Governor of Virginia over the weekend, after winning a massive upset in the reliably blue state this past November. And on his first day in office, he took immediate action, signing 11 executive orders. I've paraphrased a few of them below:<br /><br />Ending the use of divisive concepts, including Critical Race Theory in public education<br /><br />Empower Virginia parents in their children's education by allowing them to decide if their child wears a mask to school<br /><br />Investigate wrongdoing in Loudon County [last year a transgender student raped multiple girls inside the girls' bathroom/locker and the country tried to cover it up]<br /><br />Combat and prevent human trafficking and provide support to survivors<br /><br />Establish a commission to combat antisemitism<br /><br />Restore individual freedoms and personal privacy by rescinding the vaccine mandate for all state employees<br /><br />Adding to the enthusiasm of the day, the new Republican government made history:<br /><br />Winsome Sears (R) became the first Black woman to hold statewide office in Virginia after being sworn in as Lieutenant Governor.<br /><br />Jason Miyares (R) became the first Latino to hold statewide office in Virginia after he was sworn in as Attorney General.<br /><br />Congrats, Virginia. It looks like you are in for a major upgrade.
