He is married to Dr. Jan Murphy, the Provost at<br />Illinois State University where she has served as a faculty member and administrator for over 30 years. Scott has twin step-children. Myles is a CPA in Chicago. Maggie is a product design specialist at Purina in S. Louis. <br />Scott was born in McLean, Illinois, and attended Ben Funk Grade School and Olympia High School. He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1980 with a B.S. in Business Administration and has been farming in the McLean area since 1982. He has been involved in agriculture in McLean County his entire life. From 1979 to 2002 he contracted with area seed companies to organize detassling crews, employing hundreds of local youth and young adults. From 1990 to 2004, Scott also owned and operated facilities in Shirley and Wapella Illinois to provide custom drying of seed corn to larger companies. In 1999, Scott established his current business, Scott Murphy and Associates (<a href="http://www.seedequipment.com" rel="noopener">www.seedequipment.com</a>), selling used equipment to the seed industry in over 25 countries worldwide.
