The (Un)Familiar Self: Integrating Your Vacation Life with Your Work/Home Life | SOLO
seare shishay
Description

On the mic again solo, Rea talks about the many versions of our selves—that’s right, double plural. Using a recent and true vacation she took with her husband to celebrate her 40th birthday and their wedding anniversary, she explores the “version” of ourselves we are when we are on “vacation,” and the version we are when we’re back at home.

Stripping away the presentations that accompany our “work” selves—whether it be hustler, CEO, or boss babe—during a weeklong retreat at an upstate New York spa, what Rea found herself left with was the person she really wants to be, and the way she really wants to feel. But, as it might be for any of us, the instant she returned to the office, despite her best efforts, the old self returned.

So the question becomes: how do we integrate the person we are on vacation with the person we are in daily life? The conclusion she comes to is radically simple, radically life changing, and radically difficult. If you’ve ever felt the yearning to merge your many different “selves,” reach out to us at podcast@writewayco.com.

Also, to experience the unified “selfness” that Rea did, she recommends Shou Sugi Ban House in New York.
