Even if you can successfully complete your task, it usually takes much longer and comes with a great deal of frustration. It is the same way with unhealed trauma. When potential clients come to me to help them achieve their goals, unhealed trauma is one of the most common culprits.</p> <p>We all experience trauma at varying degrees at different points in our lives. Many of us can process it, heal, and move on. Unfortunately, many also become trapped in the vortex of unhealed trauma. People often conceal their wounds instead of taking the necessary steps to heal; however, a wound concealed is unhealed.</p> <p>Trauma comes in all shapes and forms. A traumatic event can be as simple as losing a loved one, watching your parent's marriage fall apart, or watching a parent struggle with addiction. These types of trauma would be classified as ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences). Each occurrence is qualified as one ACE point. Once a child reaches three or more aces, the long-term health and performance implications can be catastrophic. For instance, a child with four ACEs is 12-times more likely to attempt suicide.</p> <p>Childhood trauma does stop with these common events; it can also manifest through abuse and neglect. Childhood sexual abuse is a source of massive trauma, and often the victim is made to be the villain while the perpetrator is protected.</p> <p>People also experience trauma later in their lives through different forms of loss and physical violence, such as assault and rape. Domestic violence and intimate partner violence can also leave an individual traumatized.</p> <p>Imagine being crippled or paralyzed by trauma while trying to navigate the labyrinthine corridors of life on a successful level. At the very least, it will be frustrating and painstaking. At the worst, it will prove to be virtually impossible.</p> <p>Concealing a
