The long promised victor

William Taylor - Mary’s song, the Magnificat, must be one the most sung songs of all time. It provides Christians with the model response to all that God is doing in salvation. But Luke has a greater purpose than simply giving us words to sing as he includes Mary’s lyrics in the opening to his gospel. Mary’s words, together with the rest of chapters 1 and 2, enable us to interpret the remainder of Luke’s gospel rightly.
