The Difference Between The American & South African Zulu Weddings

<p>It’s the month of love and love is in the air. This time of the year we witness a lot of engagements, proposals, and weddings. So, we also saw it fit to share with you the differences between American and South African Zulu weddings.</p> <p>Why Zulu weddings in South Africa because there are so many cultures and Lady Siza would’ve struggled to fairly share about the more than 11 cultures her country South Africa has. So, she decided to go with the culture she knows and was born into and that is the Zulu culture. LJ will, of course, share about American weddings.</p> <p>So in most cultures, there are different stages or processes that lead up to the wedding day. In western society including America, there will traditionally be an engagement, followed by a bachelor party or bridal shower, then the reception dinner, and finally the wedding.</p> <p>As with most cultures, there are different stages in a Zulu wedding as well. A traditional Zulu wedding is quite different and complex but also has distinctive stages, with the first being the payment of lobola, something that’s the subject of great debate these days. Once lobola has been paid izibizo or membeso will follow, where gifts are given to the bride’s family, followed by umbondo where the bride reciprocates by buying groceries for the groom’s family, and finally the actual wedding and /or umabo.</p> <p>We hope that you continue to learn from us and we from you.
