<p>"From very young Tom McDonald’s parents abused him physically and sexually and made him drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. This continued until the age of 13. Then a neighbour invited Tom to church where gave his life to Jesus. But the long-term effects of this abuse were devastating. When he married, Tom battled with intimacy. However, his wife demonstrated an understanding that helped him cope with his pain. Understanding is essential in helping victims of abuse.
