Neo-Orthodoxy responded against the empty liberal theology birthed by the Enlightenment, attempting to give a via media between anti-intellectual evangelicalism and powerless liberalism. Thinkers like Karl Barth and Rudolf Bultmann tried to make Christianity seem respectable to modern men, but they sacrificed far too much in the process.
