The sweetness stingsand, yet, it is the medicine prescribedfor every grief that ails me: shattersoul,myriad strains of sorrow that infectthe humors and the bones, the tainted whole.The maladies devour sans respectfor how I would inhale: a hopeful air,the glimmering of dawn still on the sky;the day ahead bedecked with promise, fair,without a weary voice that wonders whythe constellations swear their evil shape,celestial lines forestalling all escape.<br/><br/>—So I’ve been feeling not great the last few weeks. Ever since the new year, most of my creative energy—what little there is—has been channeled into my novel. And everything else has suffered. Today was the first time in a long while that I felt a poem rise up in me. So here it is.<br/><br/>In other news, my favorite (currently living) poet is teaching classes that start next month.
