Here are some social media tips athletes can use while starting this new journey. The first one is one’s following. When building your brand as an athlete across social media platforms, it is important to have a big following. The more followers you have the more people and brands know who you are and will want to work with you. Next is having a unique backstory. A unique backstory is something that people always remember. If it is a story of how you got to where you are in your college career then that story can be an inspiration for the younger generation that wants to follow in your footsteps. Another would be showcasing your involvement off the field or court. Involvement in your community as well as the issues that are going on around the world. For example, posting a statistic about mental health awareness shows that there are greater things to be a part of than the sport you play. Another crucial one is positivity. Staying positive on your social media accounts will only attract more followers. The last thing you want to do is drive them away. Lastly is the most important. Appropriateness. As a former college athlete, I know how important this one is because of how easily we can forget about it. It is important to remember who we are representing and remember that those people that are following you look up to you like you would never know. Even more so your goal is to be able to represent a brand or company that you are passionate about so you would be putting their reputation at risk as well.
