Description

A resident of a Shannon apartment complex with well-documented construction flaws is calling for emergency funding to be granted for remediation. It follows the publication of the Code of Practice for the Remediation of Fire Safety Defects by the Department of Housing which aims to "ensure a consistent approach to remediation works nationwide". It is estimated that there are over 100,000 properties built during the Celtic Tiger nationwide that did not meet construction standards, with 240 of these in Brú na Sionna in Shannon. 'Not Our Fault' campaign spokesperson and Brú na Sionna resident Lorraine Carew says the government must follow the template of recent crises to make funding available to affected residents.
