Sagamu cult killings: Police arrest seven suspects

<p>The Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested seven suspects in connection with ongoing cult killings in the Sagamu area of the state.</p>, <p>A statement by spokesperson of the Command, Omolola Odutola, said the arrests were made during a raid on September 17.</p>, <p>The raid was led by ACP Shehu Alao, with collaboration from members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.</p>, <p>The statement said the operation was carried out in response to reports of a clash between two rival cult groups, namely Aiye and Eiye, which resulted in the death of four individuals, at Ewu Iya, Sakura, on Sunday.</p>, <p>“Upon receiving the information, the Area Commander swiftly mobilized more personnel to the scene in order to prevent the clash from escalating and to apprehend the cultists involved.</p>, <p>“Seven suspected cultists were arrested, and further investigations led to the recovery of a firearm, three live cartridges, and a criminal charm.m,” the statement added.</p>, <p>Odutola identified the suspects as Asaiye Omolaja, Azeez Nofiu, Mathew Adewale and Bolaji Ogunkemaya.</p>, <p>“It is worth noting that Bolaji Ogunkemaya was found with the four deceased persons in the same room where the killings occurred.</p>, <p>“One individual, Wasiu, managed to escape before the authorities arrived.</p>, <p>“During the raid, Bolaji Ogunkemaya provided critical information, stating that their leader, known as Azubuike (aka BETTER), had been arrested by the Area Commander a fortnight ago,” the statement added.</p>, <p>DAILY POST gathered that the cult clashes have escalated to other parts of Sagamu, with residents expressing concern over the rise in the death toll as at Monday morning.</p>, <p>About 20 persons were said to have been killed, including secondary school pupils.</p>, <p>The statement further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Abiodun Alamutu, visited Sagamu on Monday to assess the situation firsthand and profile all the arrested suspects.</p>
