S3.5/E45: Music Publishing Isn't Scary or Confusing + How to Land a Sync Placement w/ Award Winning Composer Matthew Wang

Wang has written music for a vast range of different projects—from the Pharrell Williams-executive produced Netflix kids program <em>Brainchild</em> (2018), to Shaquille O’Neal’s basketball animated short <em>HeadNoise</em> (2021), for which he was awarded a Hollywood Music In Media Award in the category Best Song for Short Film. His extensive television composing credits include NBC’s <em>The Young Rock</em> (2022)<em> </em>and <em>New Amsterdam</em> (2018-2022), Showtime’s <em>Yellowjackets</em> (2021-2022),<em> </em>Hulu’s <em>Shrill </em>(2019-2021), Netflix’s <em>Ginny and Georgia</em> (2021) and <em>Glow </em>(2019), HBO’s <em>Mrs. Fletcher</em> (2019). He found his first feature film in IFC Midnight’s thriller <em>Centigrade</em> (2020), which he co-composed alongside Trey Toy, and went on to co-compose the television films <em>RENO! 911: It&#39;s a Wonderful Heist</em> (2022) and <em>RENO! 911: The Hunt for QANON</em> (2021) with Craig Wedren. Wang has also worked with Devo &amp; composing icon Mark Mothersbaugh.
