Description

In today's episode, we answer the question: What is the Africa the YOUTH want?

November is AfRICA YOUTH MONTH #AYM2020 - observing it in 2020 after a global pandemic has ravaged our continent - the time has come to reframe the narrative of Africa’s seamless rise, yet again, to ensure that the youth inherit an Africa THEY want.

In this week's episode of #FromAfRICAToTheWorld🌍 our ED Yavi Madurai chats to Karen Takondwa Mwendera - award winning journalist, Curator of the Forbes 30-under-30 list, lecturer, speaker, and MAPP Ambassador.

In every crisis there is opportunity, and in 'never letting a good crisis go to waste', Karen breaks down her ideas of how and where the youth should position themselves today (finding solutions for Africa's problems), for leadership tomorrow.

Let's create an AfRICA🌍 for the youth that we will be proud to hand over to them - afterall, we are merely borrowing it from them!

Five years ago, we held a clear picture of what an African century would look like. Today, in a post-Covid world, the picture has changed, and therefore the reframing will have to change yet again, but the goal remains the same – for an African Century to emerge with a water tight economic agenda, and one that simply must include women but, most importantly youth.

2021 will no doubt be a challenging year for those who have propped up the idea of Africa’s seamless “rise” in 2020. Being the youngest continent, the world’s future rests in Africa’s hands, and specifically in the African youth’s hands. McKinsey released a report last year, citing 1 in 4 of the global workforce will be from the African continent, by 2030.

That is just 9 years away, meaning that we have a lot to do to in terms of getting ready for Africa’s youth to participate in and lead global economies. It is now
