Respect And What's Making Us Happy

There has never been anybody like Aretha Franklin. A legendary singer, an activist, a pianist, Franklin is the subject of the new film <em>Respect</em>. She's played by Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson. Directed by Liesl Tommy, <em>Respect </em>is focused on Franklin's childhood and the first 10 years or so of her career. It spends much of its energy on her relationships with men, especially her father, played by Forest Whitaker, and her first husband, played by Marlon Wayans.
