Resourceful Creativity to Make Award-Winning Short Films

Today’s episode is with Nick Vaky – a film director, writer and editor who grew up in Hawaii, studied in Boston, and now lives in Taiwan. In this cross continental interview, we discuss how to create a film without endless resources, how to fight through self-doubt and how chance encounters can sometimes be instrumental to our life’s journey. Nick has worked on so many exciting projects which we talk about in this episode. For instance, one of Nick’s short films, ‘Everything Rises’, was chosen to be featured at the Cannes Film Festival in 2020. He also worked on a project called ‘The World is your Ashtray’, where he documented the waste of cigarette butts, demonstrating how these seemingly insignificant pieces of litter are polluting the landscape of important locations. And he has recently started the YouTube channel ‘Mint Volcano’, where he and friends review and analyse Taiwanese cinema, sharing the love for Asian/Taiwanese films and TV shows with global audience.
