Description

SWANA collective members Nyma Ardalan and Hamoud Salhi cover two segments: the new interim government in Afghanistan and the Morocco-Algeria Crisis. They review how the development of the interim government has been interpreted. The Taliban appear to have reneged from their commitment to establish an all-inclusive government. First, we ask why an interim government and not a permanent government? Second, the interim government does not include the Ministry of Women’s Affairs. What signals the Taliban are sending to Afghan women and the Western World by this move? And finally, how can the Taliban meet the aspirations of the Afghan population and how can it reconcile its ideology with the demands of governing, inclusion, and the West? In terms of Morocco and Algeria, both countries have been asked by the Arab League to reconcile their differences and accept mediation. But Algeria has refused. Since this topic has been missing in the media, we begin with a brief background on the current crisis to digest its roots and implications on the region of Northern Africa. This crisis has the potential to develop into a war between Morocco and Algeria, which is why we are following it and will continue to do so in the future.

SWANA Region Radio is run entirely by the volunteer efforts of our collective: Ankine Antaram, Nyma Ardalan, Inara Khankashi, David Lloyd, Hamoud Salhi, Rana Sharif, and Soraya Zarook. You can also follow our updates on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We appreciate any amplification of our work. Thanks for listening and for sharing!
