UNDERSTANDING THE FIRST LUNAR MONTH of HINDU LUNAR CALENDAR

One listener asked the following question:

"does Hindu new year always falls with the new moon in Pisces? In other words can it also fall in late March? In tropical astrology this new Hindu year falls in Aries sun sign, is the month always Pisces in Vedic for the New Year?"

MY ANSWER

Hindu lunar months are named as per the nakshatra in which Moon is placed on the FULL-MOON day during that month.

This lunar-month [the first month of the year], the full-Moon will happen when Moon will be at 2 deg 35 min Libra and Sun will be at 2 deg 35 min Aries. [Here I am talking about sidereal Aries]. The exact full moon moment will happen at 00:09 Hrs on 17 th April -2022 in this lunar-month {it will be 16th April as USA time zone}.

So please note this, that at the FULL-MOON moment in this lunar month, Sun will be in Aries (and that is important). Obviously the New Moon moment happens 15 days before, so at that time Sun is always in Pisces when the 1st day of the waxing-phase of this lunar-month begins (the New Year Day).

Moon will be in CHITRA nakshatra at 2 deg 35 min Libra at the Full-Moon time... so this 1st Hindu month is named Chaitra

---------------------------

For getting astrology readings you may write to me on my
Email: Cosmicbond7@gmail.com
