Description

Welcome to Episode Three of Operation Save Abortion! Thanks for committing to this pod series and for making a commitment to learn more, act more, fund more, and raise hell more in this fight for abortion and bodily autonomy. This is NOT a pod series you listen to while cleaning out your closet. It’s about listening with friends and utilizing the activity and discussion guide designed for each episode to deepen your knowledge. The goal is helping you discover which part of abortion activism is right for you, so you can help build and grow community.  Each of the five episodes features amazing experts from the reproductive health, rights, and justice movements. Before you get into episode three, listen to Episode 1. It’s pretty much your “Reproductive Justice 101” crash course. Abortion activism is just one part of this intersectional movement, so this first episode is designed to help ground your experience throughout this series and overall abortion advocacy in a Reproductive Justice framework, making sure to center those most most effected by these harmful laws, and by following Black, Brown and Indigenous leadership as we fight for bodily autonomy.  Episode Three is all about patient advocacy. A lot of folks have expressed great interest in this topic and have been asking for some time now about how you can help people seeking abortion. We’d like to start off by saying that there are a lot of complexities in this area, so we put together an all-star panel made up of experts who do this all day, everyday. They will be breaking down what patient advocacy is, giving you the realities of what is needed, help guide you on how you can support the organizations who specialize in patient support, and explain why some people’s very generous and well meaning offers of a couch or “camping” can make people feel vulnerable and in turn add to the stigma around abortion care. It’s intense, but you’re doing great, so take a breath and take this at your own pace. Questions? info@operationsaveabortion.com.  English transcript
