Description

New powers allowing pharmacists to extend prescriptions up to 12 months are being hailed in Clare as a step in the right direction towards improving healthcare services. From March 1st, pharmacists will be given the power to provide an extension under certain cirsumstances, if they deem it safe and appropriate to do so. The Irish Pharmacy Union has long been calling for the move, claiming they're under-utilised in the wider health system. Kilkee Pharmacist, Sean Hurst says the nuts and bolts of it have yet to be decided, but he believes it will be safer for the patient and ease pressure on GPs.
