March 27 - The 1964 Alaska 9.2 Earthquake and Tsunami

Releasing about 500 years of stress buildup, this event tore the earth wide open and triggered tsunamis. Six hundred miles (970 km) of fault ruptured all at once and moved up to 60 ft (18 m).
