Local Hotel Unsure Of Futures Amid Ireland’s Obligations To Accommodate IPAs

The Vice Chair of Clare Tourism Advisory Forum says local hoteliers are unsure of their futures amid Ireland’s obligations to accommodate International Protection Applicants. This comes after the representative body for tourism has written to the Integration Minister in relation to the provision of accommodation to IPAs in Clare. The letter describes the 37% reduction in the number of available bed nights in the county due to the repurposing of hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses as having resulted in a significant loss to the local tourism economy and has, consequently, impacted Clare’s competitiveness. General Manager of Durty Nellys, Bunratty, Maurice Walsh, says local hotel and restaurant owners are unsure of their futures.
