Letting go- finding the balance of independence with our kids

The moment you find out you're pregnant your number one thought is how can I protect this baby from everything under the sun. You become so wrapped up in the idea of protection that as Mom you want to control everything within your power to be the best mom you can be to keep your kids safe. As they get older though you need to slowly let go over certain controls for their benefit to make sure they are ready for the ultimate goal in life. Be ready to be okay when you are not here. Sad thought…It’s something I am constantly struggling with though. When is the right age to allow natural consequences to start taking over for each lesson they need to learn in life? What do you do when it's literally easier just to make sure everything they need to get done is done because you did it yourself. What do you do when you know something isn’t right about a non-life-threatening situation but you know that is going to break their heart. #thestruggle is real. In this week's episode the momspert’s talk about their struggles with letting go. Allie has struggled with an acquaintance, Nick is going out into the world without Mom holding his hand and Wyatt is ready for his big boy bed but mom is not. We talk about the times that natural consequences did or did not do their job.
