The “New Hollywood” era was critical in redefining what a film could be in terms of mood, atmosphere, subject matter, and scale. Realistic, grittier movies, such as The Godfather (1972), were emerging. Blockbuster horror films such as Jaws (1975), The Exorcist (1973), and Halloween (1978) were establishing a new trend the would define 1980’s film.
