Description

*We recognise that not everyone may identify with or like the term 'severe and enduring eating disorder'. In this episode we have chosen not to discuss the label, but rather focus on the impact of the experience.*

Often, people with SE-EDs don't feel like they 'fit' anywhere in the system, and find themselves disconnected, isolated and falling further into illness. At EDV, we understand the desperate need for those in our community who are experiencing a SE-ED (10+ years of illness) to have somewhere to go to feel supported and to improve their quality of life.

On this episode of Candid Conversations, we hear from two members of the EDV team who have recovered from severe and enduring eating disorders - Emilie and Richard. Emilie and Richard are members of EDV's SE-ED program, a new (world-first we believe!!) program for those with SE-EDs. In our conversation we discuss:

What defines a SE-ED and how common is it

What are the impacts of SE-EDs (Richard shares their lived experience)

Why do some people develop a SE-ED

How the EDV SE-ED program developed and how it's structured

Why quality of life rather than recovery is the focus of the program

The role of hope

Tips for carers/support people

How to get support if you live in Victoria

Huge thanks to Emilie and Richard for generously sharing their time and lived experience in this episode.
