Is This It vs Turn on the Bright Lights - Part 2

<p>Concluding our clash between turn-of-the-century New York bands, and temporarily halting our virtual road trip of famous musical cities, we turn our attention to Interpol’s debut album, 2002’s ‘Turn on the Bright Lights’.</p> <p>It’s another long episode this week (sorry about that; you should have seen how long the unedited recording of this clash was!) and that’s because there’s a hell of a lot for us to get through with this album - not least of all how the tragic events of 9/11 influenced the sound.</p> <p>We also talk about the bands that influenced Interpol and, as with The Strokes last week, how they in turn influenced so much of what followed over the remainder of the decade.</p> <p>In our latest ‘video killed the radio star’ Kev introduces an unheralded video from an act that we have covered before on Album Clash and one which, while very much of its time, remains somewhat unique in its style.</p> <p>As is customary, we score these two albums and decide which one is best (it’s a lot closer than you might think…) and Kev reveals which two albums will be the next to go head-to-head in the ring of death.
