Description

During the late 1800's and early 1900's, a great migration occurred in the United States from European countries. Many were warned about being considered black or non- white once they arrived and the hardships that would be experienced. Black people were considered less than and a status you would never want to be associated with. The status of "white" became an important entry point for new comers to make claim too--- even if they denied their ethnicity. Some immigrants sent their white looking family members to the US to make a better life for themselves. Sound familiar?
