Description
There are calls for the discrepancy between active travel funding in urban and rural areas in Clare to be urgently addressed. In June, the National Transport Authority announced an allocation of €4.5 million to support twenty-eight projects in the county. However a document presented at the latest meeting of Clare's Rural Strategic Policy Committee states that the NTA will be focusing on large urban areas, with Ennis and Shannon to be prioritised. Committee Chairperson and Maghera Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat Hayes says communities have been left bitterly disappointed.
