<p class="p1">Be mindful of transitional moments and choose to show up as your best. Not perfect, perfect is a fallacy. But just reaching for something—more. We have to switch gears very quickly between the roles we play in life. We are switching many many times in a day. Be aware of those transitional moments, and be intentional about how we close out one role and show up to our next. It could be switching between a conversation with a peer about a project, and then switching into a leadership role with a client to navigate a difficult problem.</p> <p class="p1">Those two roles, the two environments, demand a different version of us. The first one with your peer—your intention or goal may be Collaboration or Problem-Solving. But with your client, it might Leadership or Confidence to move them ahead. Another example that is SO RELEVANT in today’s environment is – working parents vacillating between work-mode and parent-mode. April speaks with a Project Manager about a missed deliverable very differently than she speaks with her 7-year-old about if they can have a pet donkey. Yes, this is a real conversation she’s had.</p> <p class="p1">Brendon Burchard, Best Selling Author, Speaker, and Performance Coach talks about this in his book High-Performance Habits; How Extraordinary People Become That Way. When switching gears, transitioning from one role to the next—acknowledge you’re in a transition, that something must end, for something new to begin. Make the most of it by #1: Take two deep breaths and release the tension of the previous role, release unfinished business. Example, leaving boss-mode and going into parent-mode. These deep breaths will allow her to show up right as a parent. And explain that their HOA has a policy against pet donkeys. #2 Set an intention for how you will show up in this next role. In our example, set an intention of Joy, Love, Present when in parent-mode. If you are managing a project—the intention might be Clarity or Leadership.
