How to Help a Burned Out Nurse

<p><strong>Nurses are Burned Out Too</strong></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While nurse burnout can find its way in any medical ward, oncology and emergency medicine nurses are especially susceptible. This intuitively makes sense. Oncology nurses follow patients undergoing a journey that involves an incredible amount of emotion and lengthy treatments with an, unfortunately, higher mortality rate than other specialties. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Nurses in the emergency department are uniquely tasked with high patient volumes with an unpredictable, acutely sick patient population. Often working short-handed, these nurses can handle multiple ill patients only to be interrupted with another ambulance run. This environment is especially prone to nurse burnout. Similar to physicians, emergency medicine carries the highest rate of burnout. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While the reasons for burnout are similar to physicians, our nurses carry some unique challenges as well.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Are you a nurse or physician that is losing the joy in medicine?
