How did you unlearn something your parents believed but you now don’t?

Description

We start our lives learning what is true about the world from our parents. Some good. Some bad. Some true. Some not.

I recently saw a video where two parents "pranked" their toddler by leaving the house and "forgetting" her.

They left a camera set up to film her (to me) heartbreaking reaction as she stood looking at the closed door holding her little suitcase.

In her unconscious mind that child now has data that says she isn't important and doesn't matter enough to be remembered.

How will she unlearn that? (Don't do that to your children. It's not funny.)

In this conversation Jim Tam, Racquelle Pakutz, Jonathan Gaev and I talked about religion. That seems to be an area where it is pretty common for adults to differ from their parents.

But how does that change come about? Could we use the same steps to unlearn deep-seated beliefs that might have been installed by our parents being careless?

Where do your beliefs differ from your parents and how did you get where you are now?

Connect with the panelists: Racquelle Pakutz: https://www.linkedin.com/in/racquelle-pakutz/ Jim Tam: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jimtam/

Jonathan Gaev: www.powerofproject.com

Dr Robyn Odegaard: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robynodegaard/

Want a summary of the Quick Hits I post every week, plus the links to the LinkedIn pages of each of the panelist to show up in your in-box every week?
