How COMMITTED are You?

After her long run in the park Sarah stopped to catch her breath. It was a little later then she liked to run, and the early Fall had branches from the tall trees casting shadows across the running path. Along with the quickly dimming sky, she was a little troubled. Must start earlier she gasped. All at once she felt a strong pull on her hoodie, and simultaneously felt a powerful hand grabbing her pony tail, yanking her head back violently, and propelling her rearwards.

Sarah COMMITTED instinctively by stepping with the motion, a little offline, and circling her arms around the surprised attackers elbows, locking his grip. Little did he know that Sarah was a 3rd Degree Black Belt in the little known art of HAPKIDO. Even worse, that this special forces style emphasized defense from common attacks, and that the word HAPKIDO itself means,“Coordinated Power Way!”

Instead of a weak, futile resistance from the attack Sarah had automatically coordinated her motion with his powerful pull and her total COMMITMENT to the battle found him off balance, both arms trapped deeply to his elbows and feeling the blunt open handed palm of this beautiful defender deadening his senses quickly.

The last thing he could remember was losing consciousness, and the next thing was a horse, that’s right, “A horse?” He said out loud, looking sideways from the wet grass, spitting out a mouthful of leaves, and sod as the mounted police officer was cuffing him and reading him his rights.

Sarah COMMITTED fully to the energy of the attack, fully stepping with the pull, and fully COMMITTED to restrain her attackers arms, locking both his elbows, as she fully COMMITTED to delivering multiple blows to his jaw, with much the same effect as a knockout punch from a bantamweight boxer.

In self-defense a half hearted technique only serves to infuriate an attacker at best, and is highly ineffective in accomplishing the goal, the only goal of self-defense, staying alive!</p
