Description

AS we read this chapter, we become aware of the fact that Dicey is reviewing in her head the burden of looking after her siblings and fending for them which is a huge responsibility. They wake up that morning in the cemetery and walk and she thinks and by the time they stop walking at the end of the day, she is exhausted and very depressed. She sits on a bench away from her siblings and cries. She becomes aware of a young man sharing her bench all of a sudden and he realizes something is wrong. He questions Dicey and she does not hold back. She needs this very much. The young man befriends her and finds out enough that he takes them all to a diner to eat a huge meal which he treats them to and then he takes them to his dormitory room where he and his roommate make them feel welcomed with showers and food and quiet and Dicey shares more of her story. She goes to bed in a much better place than she has been in three weeks. We learn how long they have been walking and where they really are.
