Gunmen kill one in Rivers’ oil community

<p>Unknown gunmen terrorising Bodo, a community in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, reportedly killed a man on Monday.</p>, <p>The hoodlums are reported to have invaded the community following a planned protest on Monday by indigenes of the community over the controversy that led to the killing of two youths from the area a few weeks ago.</p>, <p>The victims were killed by gunmen at a pipeline surveillance site but one of their targets escaped with a bullet injury.</p>, <p>An indigene of the community who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST said the armed criminals shot sporadically in the community after killing one of their targets before escaping into a nearby bush on Monday morning.</p>, <p>Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, last week held a stakeholders meeting where he directed the paramount ruler of Bodo to return and take over the affairs of the community.</p>, <p>The directive by the police commissioner has been rejected by some members of the community.</p>, <p>In the meantime, some indigenes of the community appear to be resolved in their decision to protest against the insecurity in their land and against the directive of the CP.</p>, <p>Women, men, youths, and other stakeholders were seen gathered in a town square in the community.</p>
