A recurring theme in her work is the earth bleeding at man's hand. As a student she ran a Peace & Justice Anti-Nuclear Test group and has worked on campaigns for progressive & environmentally active candidates. She started painting banners in 2013, and attended a climate rally in D.C.with her first banner which says "Demand Clean Energy for a Livable Future". Since then she has painted many banners to get the word out on various issues. Deeply worried about the future, Laurel wanted to find a way to have as much impact as possible using her talents as an artist activist. That's how she came up with the idea for the Green New Deal bandaner. (ban-dan-er), a bandana that's a banner.
