GBW #16: The Wayback Machine (Blade Runner 2049 / Independence Day: Resurgence / TRON: Legacy)

<p>Hello, and welcome to another episode of The Good, The Bad, and The What!? The show in which we discuss three films that we have deemed "good," "bad," or "what!?" within a subgenre, theme, motif, director or actor's filmography, and more!</p> <p>On this week's episode, Chris and Ryan discuss Sci-Fi Legacyquels - the term coined by <strong>Matt Singer</strong> of <a href="https://screencrush.com/"><em>ScreenCrush</em></a> to describe a years-later sequel that has one foot in the past with another trudging forward - &nbsp;specifically ones that are one-off's and not part of a multi-entry series. We start with <strong>Denis Villenueve</strong>'s miraculous "<strong>Blade Runner 2049</strong>" from 2017, and make a strong case for it being superior to <strong>Ridley Scott</strong>'s seminal classic (not least of which that it enriches Scott's film, making an already masterful film better). Then, we move onto a film that is not superior to its low-bar predecessor, 2016's "<strong>Independence Day: Resurgence</strong>," which sees director <strong>Roland Emmerich</strong> and most of the cast return... minus lead actor <strong>Will Smith</strong>. Finally, we move into a film that came on the early end of the Legacyquel craze, 2010's "<strong>TRON: Legacy</strong>."
