A myth is a statement that is baseless or story-based facts that are not true. It could also be a hear-say story. When people based their lives on myths, their performance in life become limited and they easily get into trouble. It is interesting to see that people often quote scripture out of context or use same to suit their purposes. These people fit perfectly into what Paul describes in Roman 1 vs 25 about turning the truth into a lie. When Satan tempted Jesus, he twisted scripture in order to deceive Jesus. We must be watchful of subtle but dangerous religious statement that appears real, pious, and true. They only have the appearance of truth but have no truth substances.

Luke 11 vs 27-28 (ESV), says; 27 As he said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” 28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” What we see in the bible passage above was Jesus attempt to demystify a nice statement that was erroneous. Jesus busted the myth embedded in the woman’s statement. Jesus wanted people to know the actual blessing is for those who are the doers of the word not the womb.

Paul understood the damage caused by myth beliefs. He warned Timothy in his letter to him in 1 Timothy 1 vs 4 (NLT), saying 4 Don’t let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don’t help people live a life of faith in God.

Paul warned Timothy here sternly. He said, do not listen any discussion around myths. When people began to peddle such rumour, do your best to stop it. It was quite important for Paul to issue such warning given the antecedents of Jews and Greek culture of his days. Myths belief
