FO2O Ep. 39: Blindspotting

Sometimes I wonder about my identity in relation to my adopted city. I don’t claim to be a native in any way, but I consider myself a proud resident of West Oakland. However, I will also acknowledge that I haven't truly immersed myself in the history and culture of this city. After viewing “Blindspotting” and actually seeing the same @Oaklandish West Oakland patch on Mile’s uniform that I’ve put on my own jacket, I have to wonder if I’m co-opting or laying claim to this place. Am I a part of the problem that gentrification brings with it, or simply part of the changing make-up of the neighborhood as time passes? Food for thought, but there are a lot of conversations to be had after viewing this film, which Adam and I would both recommend. Let us know your thoughts as always 👌🏼
