<p><strong>Subject pronouns </strong></p> <p>English- Igbo </p> <ul> <li>I- M/Mụ </li> <li>You (singular)- I /Ị </li> <li>He/She/It- </li> <li>O/Ọ We-Anyi </li> <li>You (plural)- Ụnụ </li> <li>They- Ha </li> </ul> <p><strong>Object Pronouns</strong></p> <ul> <li> Me -M </li> <li>You (singular)- Gi </li> <li>Him/Her/It- Ya </li> <li>Us- Anyi </li> <li>You (plural)- Ụnụ </li> <li>Them - Ha </li> </ul> <p>Extra Practice </p> <p>Lets take the sentence "I am going to school" and work through the subject pronouns.</p> <ul> <li> I am going to school = M na-aga ụlọ akwụkwọ </li> <li>You are going to school= ị na-aga ụlọ akwụkwọ </li> <li>He/She/It are going to school = ọ na-aga ụlọ akwụkwọ </li> <li>We are going to school= anyi na-aga ụlọ akwụkwọ </li> <li>You (pl) are going to school = ụnụ na-aga ụlọ akwụkwọ </li> <li>They are going to school = ha na-aga ụlọ akwụkwọ </li> </ul> <p>As mentioned when using an object pronoun the only things that change are that:</p> <ul> <li> "ị/i" turns into "gi" and </li> <li>"him/her/it" is "ya." </li> </ul> <p>Now to practice the object pronouns that change let's try saying: </p> <ul> <li>I saw you M fụrụ gi= I saw it M fụrụ ya </li> </ul> <p>Note: Igbo pronouns do not have gender as seen with he/she and even “it” which are all said as either “O/Ọ” when a subject and him/her/it said as “ya” when an object. </p> <p>Also The difference presented of "I or Ị" for "you" and "O or Ọ" are a result of vowel harmony and will be better explained in the next episode on vowels.
