Episode 18: Good language learner strategies

<p>What is it that some people do to learn a language effectively that others don't? In this episode, I talk about what research says about the strategies that <strong>Good Language Learners</strong> (GLL) do that you may wish to incorporate into your own learning journey. <strong>Neil Naiman </strong>and other researchers give us 6 strategies that you can start including in your own learning: <strong>1) Finding a learning style that suits you</strong>, <strong>2) Involving yourself in the language learning process</strong>, <strong>3) Developing an awareness of language both as system and as communication</strong>, <strong>4) Paying constant attention to expanding your language knowledge</strong>, <strong>5) Developing the second language as a separate system</strong>, and <strong>6) Considering the demands that English learning imposes</strong>.</p> <p>I also speak about how other experts classify these strategies in a broader sense: <strong>Metacognitive</strong>, <strong>Cognitive</strong>, and <strong>Social strategies</strong>. And I also give other practical ideas on how these strategies can be applied in your day to day life.
