Description

Lehi Duncan is an embodiment of servant leadership. He's held a number of leadership for social change roles across the country from managing a youth development charity, to managing distributions of a government grant-making body, to philanthropic governance and now growing the city of Kirikiriroa Hamilton working in local council. Over the years, we've grown a friendship over mutual interests in spirituality, leadership, philosophy, philanthropy and youth development, and was the person who gifted the name of this podcast to me: Take Your Meds!

This episode was juicy, and it felt like we covered so much terrain in such a short time. The episode really speaks into the themes of presence, insignificance, and reclaiming your body. What I love about Lehi is that he has an ability to craft potent and powerful messages in flow worthy of being printed on t-shirts. My top three quotes:

"Acceptance is not trying to change anything and being okay with it”

"False humility looks like I’m not good enough. I don’t deserve to take up space. I don’t deserve to be present in my body. True humility is recognising your place and space.”

"My actions are insignificant unless I’m part of a movement."

We dive into:

The power of insignificance

Reframing what medicine is

Letting go of being in control

Motorbikes as a tool for emotional regulation

Tattoos as a mechanism to reclaim the body

Overcoming dissociation

Authentic self-expression through the body

False humility vs true humility

Acknowledging your own disfunction

How capitalism impacts the human experience

If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe and leave me a review on Apple Podcast :)

I love hearing from you, so if something you heard really resonated, drop me a message on Instagram via @the_gemma_rose

And if you have a topic you'd like to hear more about, let me know.
