Episode 12: The Cost of Goods on the Frontier

They'll share some comparisons of today's money versus the value of the dollar in the 1800s.</p> <p>They'll discuss how much people earned, what is cost to run a Kansas farm, mail-order catalogs, and the amount it cost to shop for every day items.</p> <p>This show's <strong>lagniappe</strong> is:</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>Escalloped Tomatoes</strong></p> <p>Serves 4</p> <p> </p> <p>1 pint fresh tomatoes, peeled and chopped</p> <p>1 teaspoon salt</p> <p>1 teaspoon pepper, freshly ground black</p> <p>3 tablespoons butter, melted</p> <p>1 teaspoon sugar</p> <p>½ pint bread crumbs, grated</p> <p> </p> <p>Mix tomatoes, salt, and pepper, sugar, and two tablespoons of the butter and pour into a baking dish. Sprinkle the bread crumbs over the mixture and drizzle with the remaining butter.
